One body has been recovered and the search continues for a second after a canoe capsized early Sunday morning on Sturgeon Lake.
Kawartha Lakes OPP say around 2:35 a.m. emergency services personnel were called to the lake to assist four Toronto-area men whose canoe capsized. Police say one person managed to swim to shore while a second was rescued from the water by OPP officers using a borrowed boat.
The other two occupants were unaccounted.
The search continued until dusk and resumed Monday morning.
OPP resources including the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) will be at the location today. The investigation is continuing. Updates will be provided when available.
UPDATE – Officers from the OPP c ontinue to be on scene. In addition to officers from the USRU, officers from Aviation Services (helicopter) have attended the area to assist in locating the missing persons.
At approximately 5:25 pm one person has been recovered, deceased, from the water. The search will continue in the area until dusk and resume in the morning.
