We constantly here warnings about protecting the information we post about ourselves on the internet. Basically the warning goes like this “If it’s information about yourself that you would scream on a street corner, or even mention in a meeting, you probably shouldn’t post it on your facebook page, or any other social media you use.”
Well here is a website that is purpose is to prove this point explicitly. At least that’s what they are saying. The website is www.pleaserobme.com, and what is does is trolls through peoples twitter postings and other social networking sites to find entries that tell people when your not home. So if you post on you twitter account “on vacation in Mexico for two weeks”, it will find that and post it on the website pleaserobme.com. They say the purpose is to illustrate how easy it is to get people’s information that they post on the internet, and how easily that could be used by would be robbers to come and clean out your house while your on vacation.
Now, as the website says, to use you facebook or twitter posts to rob you, the robber would first need to know where you live. But again, that can be easily gotten. So here’s a reminder once again to be careful what you post on social networking sites. And check out the website, once again www.pleaserobme.com
