Sure...every once in a while, we hear of someone who has stumbled upon a piece of John Lennon memorabilia that had been tucked away is some old trunk up in great-uncle Eddie's attic.
But this one could be special.
The Sun newspaper over in the UK reports that a new John Lennon song could be published from beyond the grave. The lyrics to "Tell Her Now" were apparently written by John in the '60's, but no music was ever written to go with them.
The lyrics are part of a private collection that John's son Julian acquired after his father's death. And, Julian is apparently working on music for the song, and plans to publish it.
To me, it seems like the ultimate father-son project. Like so many other people, I was blown away by Julian's incredible resemblance to his father...and their similar voice quality...when Julian released the song "Valotte" in late '84. The song became a Top 10 hit, as did "Too Late For Goodbyes" in '85.
Then...Julian Lennon kinda disappeared...although in 1995, he popped up in the movie "Leaving Las Vegas"...a small cameo role as a bartender.
But, it sounds like Julian has had issues to deal with since the day he was born.
First of all, he's the son of John and Cynthia Lennon. For a brief time, John had concealed that he was married and had a child...thinking that female fans would not be as in love with him as a Beatle.
John and Cynthia split up when Julian was 5.
He's supposedly the inspiration for a Beatles song - - a painting he brought home one day from school that he called "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds".
He was only 17 when his John was murdered, and wasn't included in the will drawn up by Yoko Ono, which obviously led to a strained relationship between him and Yoko, along with his half-brother Sean.
However, something's happened within the last year or so. Julian says his feelings have mellowed towards Yoko and Sean...and describes their relationship now as "cordial".
So, it sounds like he's got that "fire" back within him to make music again.
John's lyrics...with Julian's music and voice. This could be good folks.
And for old time's sake.....
