I dropped into No Frills Friday afternoon to “top off” our supply of Halloween treats to hand out Saturday. I passed on the chips...the cheesies...the suckers...the popcorn, until finally...ah, there they were - - a box of 90 Hershey mini chocolate bars. I felt like I'd just discovered a goldmine.
You see, there was a method to my madness here. Whatever would be left over from Saturday night would be ours to eat. And...they’re “mini” bars. How many calories could there possibly be in one (or 12) mini bars, huh? They're tiny!!
If you hear me talking a little more rapidly this week on the radio...please try to understand. It’s a chocolate-induced sugar buzz.
I love Hershey chocolate. Maybe it’s because I grew up near Smiths Falls...where Hershey chocolate was made up until a couple of years ago.
I’ve had this conversation with Lisa and others too - - about our favourite chocolate bars as kids...some that you can’t find anymore. Apparently, I’m the only one who can remember the Cadbury "Wig Wag" bar - - a staple in my post-game diet after a hockey game in the mid-70’s.
Hmmmm...trying to figure out how to describe this one. It was a “lattice -shaped” chocolate covered chewy caramel bar...fairly long...a bit like a long pretzel. I DO remember how messy they were to eat, too - - whenever you took a bite, the chocolate would kinda fall off of the caramel...and if it was a hot day, you had little bits of melted chocolate all over your clothes (which explains why the neighbour's dog always wanted to play with me).
Please tell me I’m not the only one who remembers the Wig Wag bar. And, if you can tell me where to find one now....even better! (apparently, Cadbury makes something similar now called Curly Wurly)

There were so many great bars from the 70’s and 80’s - - others that weren’t (Big Turk and Eat More come to mind). Got a favourite to add to the list? Hit the comment button....and discuss!
