Eighty two to nuthin'!

I was in Toronto on Sunday night enjoying a few pints at a pub on the Danforth and began talking to a guy about Olympic hockey.  He started telling me about a game that ended 82-0 but he couldn't remember exactly what he'd seen on Sports Center.

I didn't believe him at all. 82 goals? One team? There's only 60 minutes in a hockey game! Some basketball games don't feature a team that scores 82 points. It would be near impossible for a team to scores 82 points in a football game, even if playing the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

I had to go home an You Tube it.... The game was actually a Women's Olympic qualifier between Slovakia and Bulgaria. Yes, video evidence of an 82-0 hockey game. Unreal.

Why didn't they call the game when the score reached 30? 50? 70? For a nation with a hockey program that is trying to develop such as that of Bulgaria, is it really making them better by being lumped out 82-0? Probably not. Needless to say, Slovakia will come over to the Women's Olympic tournament in Vancouver and will feel the same humiliation once they step on the ice with Team Canada or USA.

Here is a little snippet of how brutal the Bulgarian hockey team is.... Hockey fans, try not to puke!
