A Great Community

Thursday, February 11, 2010

I had a great time earlier this week at  Community Living Peterborough's annual Chilifest.

It's a great fundraiser for a great organization that I'm proud to associate myself with.  They've been kind enough to have me MC several of their events over the last few years and I've had a blast every time.  This year they had 17 competitors put their chili recipes to the test (as judged by Community Living board member Dan Smith, Deputy Police Chief Steve Streeter, Fire Captain Greg Simmons and City councillor Ann Farquharson) and the event has grown so much that they'll probably have to find a bigger venue for it next year.

If you're unfamiliar with Community Living Peterborough, it's a non-profit organization that helps more than 300 local children, youth and adults with intellectual disabilities.
It's one of those wonderful groups that you may not know about, but for the people who do rely on it, it is a life saver.

On another community note, this morning, St. Patrick's Day Parade chair Tim Burke  was on the air to talk about the ninth annual parade coming up on March 14th.

This has become a fantastic Peterborough tradition.  Even if you aren't Irish, you can be for a day, as they say and enjoy a parade that's grown by leaps and bounds over the years.  There will likely be more than 70 floats making their way down George Street this year.  Wear your green and be ready to jig!

If you'd like to enter your own float into the parade, contact Tim at tburke77@sympatico.ca or call him - 740-2084.
There's also a parade fundraiser coming up February 23rd at Smitty's where they'll be serving all-day breakfast with a portion of the proceeds going to the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee.
