We'll Give You This One, USA...

Wednesday, January 06, 2010

So maybe it was my fault that Canada wasn't able to win a sixth straight World Junior Hockey Championship last night, losing to the USA.  I didn't see the end of the game.  As usual, I fell asleep.  My husband even tried to wake me up for overtime.  After replying, "Ok, I'm gonna watch it," I then rolled over and went back to sleep.  As punishment after the game, my hubby wouldn't even tell me who won when he came to bed.  I had to resist the urge to get up and check the final score for myself because I think that would have cheesed off Preston who tried to wake me up three times!  Perhaps Team Canada needed just one more person to yell at their TV screen and urge our boys on.

Then again maybe we, as a nation are just being kind.  We let the Americans have this one because we've won it so many times in the past.  But we'll be taking both Men's and Women's Olympic hockey gold next month in Vancouver.  Because the US can't win the equivalent of a hockey trifecta in 2010 can they?  That's just wrong!

I just hope I'm able to see the games!  I am pregnant and due February 27th.  The Women's gold medal game is February 25th while the Men's bronze medal game is the 27th and the gold medal on the 28th.  I'm sure that spiffy new PRHC has Hi-def big screens for rent.  And the maternity ward is a cow-bell friendly area right?  For some reason we just got a box full of cow bells here at the station so I figure we should put them to good use during the Olympics!

On an interesting side note, my daughter was also born during the Olympics, the 2004 Games in Athens.  At the time I joked that in about 20 years I would be the focus of one of those vignettes they do on TV during Olympic coverage, talking about how Canada won three medals on the day my daughter was born and that I just knew she was destined for greatness!  Maybe this baby's birth day will be lucky for Canada too.

I guess I just can't fall asleep.
