The Blog That Shall Remain Nameless

A Sunday In The Life Of Alana Cameron...

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

I am a Mom in my early thirties. But to be quite honest, I often forget that. A lot of the time, I still feel like a twenty-something. If you've already been through your twenties you likely remember them well. They were pretty good for me. I had a good job and was making decent money but when work was over it was over. I was lucky enough not to work weekends and basically got to do whatever I wanted. Want to go to a late movie on a Wednesday night? Sure. Go out both Friday and Saturday night? It's on! Well that was then. Even though I still feel like a twenty-something, there are more signs every day proving just how long ago that really was.

For instance, this past weekend was my husband's Christmas party. No, you're not reading an old blog, his work party is always in January which is actually pretty cool because there's nothing else going on in January and just about everybody is ready to have some fun again after recharging the batteries following Christmas. Anyway, my enthusiasm this year was somewhat subdued by the fact I was the DD. Someone had to stay sober enough to drive the babysitter home after! Apparently sticking a 16-year-old girl in a cab by herself at two in the morning isn't cool or responsible. Worst part was, my daughter woke me up at 7am the next morning and I felt like I was the one with the hangover! Sunday afternoon we went to the movies. In the old days, we'd go see whatever we wanted. Now, it's got to be family friendly. With a little sadness and jealousy, I watched people file into My Bloody Valentine (which used to be perfect matinee fare for us) while we went next door to see Bedtime Stories (which was pretty cute - just no one got their head chopped off). After that things got really exciting. We did donuts in a snowy, empty parking lot. We were in a minivan. I tell ya, there's nothing like a 360 in a Dodge Caravan. By the time all that was over, we did a mean round of grocery shopping at the Bridgenorth Valu-mart and then I think I went home and had a nap. Yes, the excitement for a morning radio show co-host never stops!

I know it sounds like I'm complaining but really I'm not. This is just the natural progression of life and I wouldn't trade anything I have right now for those carefree days. Like I said, most days I actually still feel like that twenty-something - unfortunately now it just takes longer to bounce back from that hangover.
