I have a Facebook account; I used to check it daily to see who was doing what in my circle of “friends”, but now I am lucky if I look at it every few days or even once a week. Lately, I have even contemplated closing my Facebook account, because I couldn’t be bothered to wade through all of the application and game invitations that clog up my notifications box.  It seems like every day Facebook is coming up with something new and shiny to “spice up” your account, but you can only get it if send an invitation to 25 people on your friends list.  If I was honestly interested in adding something, I would seek it out myself; there is no need to hit me over the head with announcements for it.

I have also stopped accepting friend requests; because, I have now reached the point where people I don’t even know want to add me to their list… not because they know me, but because they seem to gather people like they are collector’s cards… I mean really... who the heck really knows 500 people?!  I have perhaps 150 people on my list; and I have even looked into culling the list to clear out people I have barely talked to in my life, yet somehow they felt we had enough of a connection to be on each other’s friends lists.  From now on, it is going to be strictly old school friends and family… people I know well enough to trust.  It also cuts down on the “clique” and “drama” factors of who you are friends with, and who doesn’t want to be your friend anymore… I left that kind of stuff back in my teen years.  I am almost 38 years old now; I am looking for a smile, sharing some good memories, and enjoying getting caught up with people who helped to shape my life while growing up… it’s a nice way to spend a few minutes of downtime away from today’s hectic pace.

Maybe I AM willing to give Facebook another chance; but don’t be offended if I don’t answer all of your application invites and friend requests… it’s nothing personal, I am just trying to keep it simple,quiet, and uncomplicated… much like myself.
