If you live or have lived in the Peterborough area for any period of time, and you are a music fan such as myself; then chances are you have been into Moondance CD’s, T-Shirts, Posters, and More. Moondance is a real treasure to Peterborough and music fans in general; the store has been in business for 35 years now, making it the oldest music store in Canada that is still operating. If you drop by you will always find owner Mike Taveroff or Scott in the store and ready to help you with whatever you need; just as they always have been over the years. I can’t count the number of bands and artists the guys have turned me on to, just through casual conversation about what is playing on the sound system in the store. If you are looking for something rare, I can guarantee that the ONLY place in town that can locate it for you is Moondance. I think it helps that the staff are such music fans themselves; music is what they do… and they do it beyond well. 

I remember during my teen years, spending hours on Saturday afternoons in Moondance, just going from section to section and checking out everything they had to offer. I never left the store without some new treasure I had found in the racks; whether it be a rare live recording, a re-mastered classic, or just something new to me. The whole atmosphere of the store is unique too; I have yet to go into any other music store and feel as comfortable and welcomed as I do at Moondance. Not much has changed about the store over the years, other than the location on George Street… and a couple of name adjustments to keep up with technology i.e. Moondance Records, to Moondance Records and Tapes, to Moondance Records, Tapes & CD’s… you get the idea. I think the fact that the store hasn’t changed a whole lot is what also gives it most of its charm; when you walk in I can assure you that you are not going to be hit over the head with advertisements for the latest American Idol sludge or Britney Spears album adverts; no, what you will find is lots of great rock memorabilia, and rare or hard to find items lining the walls and shelves available for you to purchase. It is a true music lover’s paradise.

I could go on forever singing the praises of Moondance CD’s, T-Shirts, Posters, and More, but I would rather you experience it for yourself… as it really is the only way to get the full impact of this wonderful music  store. So, on my recommendation, do yourself a favour… take a day, drop by Moondance and just soak it all in…you’ll be glad you did, and I am sure your ears will be will be happy too.
