There’s no escaping it. I’m bursting with Olympic pride. I’m extremely proud of all of the athletes my country has chosen to represent us but I’m also thoroughly impressed with the number of local Olympic connections that have caught my attention.
Most recently I’ve learned about Heather Richardson formerly of Bridgenorth and Norwood. Heather has traveled world playing, officiating and promoting women’s hockey and she’s gearing up for a career highlight tonight. Heather will be officiating the Women’s Gold Medal Hockey Game between Canada and the US.
Some other notable local Olympic connections include Members of the Kawartha Nordic Ski Club grooming cross country ski trails and serving as a medical volunteer, a contingent of local police officers providing security and of course we can’t forget Peterborough minor hockey alumni Corey Perry who tipped a couple goals into the Russian net last night.
In fact I’m sure there are more local Olympic participants that I’m not aware of but I would certainly like to be. If you know of someone who was there as an athlete, trainer , volunteer or even and enthusiastic spectator please tell me. I’d love to share their story!
