Harvest Party

One of my favourite things about working downtown in Peterborough in the summer and fall is the Wednesday Farmer's Market.

Are these not the cutest pumpkins you've ever seen in your life?

Yesterday a few of us got together for a Harvest Party. We each brought something fresh and delicious. We added wine, of course.

It was a feast!

I've acquired a real taste for beets, and the market has a lovely selection.

I've had my eye on this beet hummus recipe for some time and it turned out to be really delish. I've got to use less lemon next time. Sue me.

The beet chips recipe I tried, which was super simple -- aside from the fact that you've got to peel the damn things, did not turn out. I think I need a mandolin.

My mom made curry soup with veggies and beet tops, and a side of naan bread.

Sooooo good.

I also tried my hand at this recipe using these small, red potatoes.

All you need is butter, garlic and I used fresh parmesean from Chasing the Cheese. Who doesn't love buttery, cheesy baked potatoes?

There was a wheel.

And for dessert, pumpkins stuffed with homemade apple crumble and rice pudding.

What a bunch of Marthas, huh?

If you want to have your own Wednesday night Harvest Party, you'd better act fast -- next week, October 3rd, is the last day for the market in the Louis St. parking lot.
