This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys. Over the last 5 decads the band members have been friends, enemies, toured without certain members, sued each others, been friendly again, weathered the death of founding members, weathered the mental breakdown of another founding member... and yet, they can pull it together to tour in celebration of 50 years as a band. In fact, on the opening night of their anniversary tour, the band pulled out 42 songs over 2 sets... that's giving the fans their money's worth and then some. I might also point out that the average age of the band members is 68.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of The Rolling Stones, and what have fans been offered so far? A book and a documentary... wow... thanks guys. After 50 years there's a lot of history and bad blood that can happen within a band, but if the Beach Boys can get beyond it... why can't the Stones? Let's hope for the sake of Rolling Stones fans, that they see what the Beach Boys have pulled off and decide to do something to celebrate an anniversary that many bands never achieve.
