Today on the Vinyl Version we go back to the year 1978. The year after a man named Mark Knopfler became bored of his steel guitar and purchased his first Fender Stratocaster, changing his sound entirely.
The story of this song is that Mark was sitting at a cafe in the south end of London, when he heard the worst music he had ever heard, coming from a pub across the river. The music was so bad that Mark had to see the band producing this horrible noise. By the time Mark made it across the river, he opened the door of the pub, just in time to see the leader of this horrific Jazz band, grab the mic and say “Thank you very much, we are the Sultans of Swing”
