Last week a boy named Keaton Jones from Tennessee, broke our collective hearts when his mother released a video showing a tearful Keaton explaining what happens to him at school and questioning why people bully others. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth a look.
That is just heartbreaking. But there is a silver lining to this story. Since sharing his story, Keaton has received an enormous amount of support both online and in his community. Celebrities have even sent their love. But for most kids in Tennessee, their heroes strap on the pads every Sunday to take to the gridiron as members of the Tennessee Titans and Keaton’s favourite team did not disappoint! Titans’ Tight End Delanie Walker surprised him with video showing his support and inviting Keaton and his family to the Titans December 31 match-up against the Jacksonville Jaguars as guests of the team.
That was a classy move by Delanie Walker and the Titans organization. The important lesson here is that Keaton was able to share his story and once people knew what was happening they rallied to his aid. If you are being bullied or know someone who is, help them share their stories. No one should suffer in silence when there are good people everywhere who are willing to help!
