Before we get into this, I’m just going to come out and say DON’T TRY THIS. I shouldn’t have to tell you, but if you attempt something like this, you’re putting yourself in danger of falling to your death.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, wow have I got a crazy video to share with you.
Remember a couple months ago when the morning headlines were about a woman who had climbed up a construction crane in Toronto and then got trapped at the top?
Toronto firefighter Rob Wonfor was the one who went up and rescued her, and after the fact, called her feat of safely climbing up there “impressive.”
Now I’m no expert on climbing anything really (though if you put a nice steak dinner and a beer at the top for me, I bet I could figure it out). Part of it is that I don’t have much desire to be high off the ground, but I can’t speak for everyone. There are some people for whom the thrill of hanging out high above a sprawling city is irresistible. In fact, that Toronto situation seems to have been a “Rooftopping” adventure gone wrong.
If you wondered how that woman got up there in the first place, perhaps this crazy video I recently found will give you an idea. It’s a pretty cool look at what YouTube user DyingLlama goes through to populate his YouTube channel with all kinds of cool videos of climbing tall structures.
Keep in mind, it’s highly illegal (as the signs at the start of the video make very clear), so it’s not surprising when a bunch of police show up. Have a look:
I don’t know about you folks, but I found that video pretty thrilling from start to finish… Especially once the escape from the police began. I almost thought, when he got to the top, that the plan was to BASE jump down… It got a little more stressful when I realized that he was actually going to climb down. As someone who’s never enjoyed going down ladders, I’m just as happy to leave it to someone else.
And to think, this is stuff that people do for fun.
