Iron Horse is a bluegrass band from Alabama, who have announced that they’ll be releasing a bluegrass tribute to Nirvana on April 22… better known as Record Store Day. The album Pickin’ on Nirvana: A Bluegrass Tribute Featuring Iron Horse will feature bluegrass re-workings of 11 Nirvana classics. I have to say as a Nirvana fan, I’m rather intrigued on what the album is going to sound like; it will either be a “yay” or a big “nay”. There have already been a few country covers of Nirvana songs including In Bloom by Sturgill Simpson… and THAT cover alone worked REALLY well. Bluegrass and country are close cousins, so Iron Horse might be able to pull off a proper album, but we’ll have to wait until April 22 to see. I wonder what Kurt Cobain would think? In the meantime, if you haven’t heard it yet, keep an open mind and check out the Sturgill Simpson version of In Bloom below. Feel free to leave a comment or thought about all of this…. I’m curious to see what you think.
