Have you ever pondered how dinosaurs went extinct? It’s a question for which there has never really been a consensus. There’s plenty of theories floating around about what the real cause may have been. Things like climate change, diseases, changing plant communities or geologic events have all been blamed, but nobody can agree that any one thing was the definitive cause.
I have another idea of what may have been the downfall of the dinosaurs: Their complete inability to shovel snow. A video that was shared on YouTube this week shows exactly what I mean:
Right off the bat, those little stubby arms seem to cause problems for the T-Rex, making it difficult for it to get its boots on. Then, being a little taller than the patio door, the T-Rex struggles to get its head out. When outside, the wind catches its body like a giant sail, making it difficult to stand still or walk, especially with the slippery ground under its feet. After suffering what appears to be a broken neck from the forces of the wind, the T-Rex admits defeat, and pulls itself back inside its apartment to catch its breath.
I know what you’re thinking – this is only one example, surely inability to shovel didn’t kill off ALL the dinosaurs… But are you sure about that?
This one doesn’t seem to be very good at it – although it is moving at least a little bit of snow:
This one seems to be struggling quite a bit too:
The T-Rex is this next video manages to make a little progress, but as you can see, the snowy conditions seem to make it difficult for the dinosaur to walk easily. Add in a bit of shoveling and a few breathers are necessary:
It seems as though they would want to help their neighbours shovel out, but that’s a struggle too:
Perhaps part of their demise was how distracted they became while shoveling snow, making them an easy target for potential captors:
Just imagine what kind of challenge cleaning the snow off the car poses to a T-Rex!
Alas, if only the dinosaurs had some of our modern technology. Specifically, a snowblower. I bet that would have made their lives infinitely easier, and who knows – maybe they’d still be around today and we’d all live in fear of meeting one face to face.
Doesn’t that look so much easier? As you can see, the exceedingly rare Colorado T-Rex seems well-prepared for winter:
And I bet they’d have had a lot easier time getting around if they’d had snowmobiles back in the day too… Though as you’ll see toward the end, that can be a struggle too:
So if all this snow we’re getting has got you wondering how you’re going to dig yourself out, just be glad you’ve got proper arms, not like a T-Rex…
