One of my favourite movies as a youngster (and one of the few that I owned on VHS and rewatched constantly) was Toy Story. I was just a toddler when it came out, and I remember going with my dad to see it in the theatre. I had this Woody plush toy that I brought with me, but once the movie started I must have set it down and forgotten about it. I realized when we got home that I didn’t have it, and promptly freaked out. My dad handled it with such grace, though. He called the theatre, who put him in touch with someone who had found it and did all the leg work to reunite me with that Woody doll. Looking back now as someone who is pretty close to where he was in age at the time (but not yet a dad), I’m impressed that he went through all that for a fairly inexpensive toy just to make his six-year-old kid happy.
Thanks again for that, dad.
I also developed a love for Star Wars at a young age, too. While I wasn’t around when they originally hit theatres, I remember when George Lucas released the remastered versions of the original trilogy, and my mom and I went to the local Cineplex to see A New Hope and Return of the Jedi (We didn’t make it in for The Empire Strikes Back, however). I also received that remastered trilogy on VHS as a gift and watched them quite a bit.
There are a few parallels between the series. There is the Space theme, with Star Wars happening entirely in outer space, and Buzz Lightyear being from space himself.
Also, with a villain like Emperor Zurg, it would be hard not to play up the Vader-Skywalker connection.
Oh, whoops… I probably should have put a *SPOILER ALERT* before that. My bad.
Anyway, to see that someone has now combined characters from these two series makes my inner-child very happy.
Nukazooka, a group who have pretty limited information about themselves online, created this awesome short film which blurs the lines between two different Disney universes for an epic battle. Check it out!
That battle went more or less how I expected it to, and though I wasn’t expecting Buzz’s arm to come off, I think him using his own arm to beat Vader was my favourite part.
But toward the end, it also gives us some insight into what happened directly before Buzz and Woody met.
Do I smell a crossover film coming? I sure hope so!
