Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea‘s love of animals is already well documented. Last summer it was reported that Flea had become a full-fledged beekeeper, hosting an apiary of 200,000 bees in his back yard. Why? Well for one, he loves his bees. For two, it’s the environmentalist in him doing his part to battle Colony Collapse Disorder, as the honey bee population continues to steadily decline as it has for years now, threatening an entire food chain that relies on bees to pollinate plant life.
Well this week, Flea showed that his love of animals isn’t limited just to the ones who fly and make honey. During a visit to The Gorilla Foundation in Woodside, California, Flea got to hang out and even jam with Koko the Gorilla. You may have heard of 45-year-old Koko, who is famed for her ability to communicate with people through sign language.
Flea clearly enjoyed himself, as you can hear him say in the video. It looks like Koko is particularly interested in his instrument of choice too. Have a look:
Another video of the two hanging out also made it on to Twitter.
As you can see, he’s also encouraged fans to buy a Koko shirt to help raise money for The Gorilla Foundation.
As big a deal as Flea is, he’s not the first celebrity guest Koko has had. The late Robin Williams once visited her and the two formed a rather special relationship – to the point where Koko cried when she found out he had passed away.
