Prime Minister Justin Trudeau became the first sitting PM to take part in the Toronto Pride event this past weekend. The event was more meaningful to many this year in particular, after the recent shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Trudeau has said the Pride event is a reminder not to tolerate hate. One pair of marchers held a large black banner that read “Orlando” and “We march for those who can’t.” You can read more about Trudeau at the parade here or check out the video.
Meanwhile, the Black Lives Matter movement staged a protest at the parade this year- you can hear the BLM Toronto co-founder explain why they halted the parade for over 30 minutes in the second video below.
