I know for a fact I’m not the only person who really loves sleeping in. If I don’t have anywhere to be on a particular day, there’s a decent chance I’ll stay up way too late and sleep until the absolute last minute before I have to be up to get wherever I need to go.
The problem with that strategy is that it doesn’t leave much time to fix any breakfast. Mind you, that might not matter as much as everyone thinks, if a scientist who doesn’t believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day is to be believed. Whether it’s important for whatever reasons outlined there or not, it’s pretty nice just to get some food into ya to start the day, you know?
And sure, there’s always cereal… But my generation is too lazy to even eat cereal. So often I’ll just go without and “catch up” at the next meal.
Maybe if I were retired, I would have time to build a machine that would make my breakfast for me. That’s exactly what a couple of British retirees did – to make the perfect breakfast for their wives.
It looks more like a Rube Goldberg Machine than anything, which is totally okay with me. In fact, Peter Browne (one of the men behind the machine) said the basic goal was to make people laugh, but it also had to work very well. And it may not even qualify as a Rube Goldberg machine since the action it’s performing is actually pretty complicated, whereas most have only a simple end goal.
Whatever classification it gets, it took quite a bit of work (somewhere around 1000 hours) to complete.
I’ll be honest, I mostly included that just to have a teabagging gif in my blog, because I never thought I’d be able to do that and have it be acceptable. That’s the mark of maturity, isn’t it folks?
If these guys wanted any advice or inspiration, I’d be happy to provide some. The only thing that was missing from what I could see was some form of meat to go along with breakfast. Perhaps in the future they’ll add an automatic bacon grill that opens bacon packages and lays the contents out on a griddle to cook.
Or maybe something that plays a nice little tune while you’re waiting for the egg to boil.
If I was feeling really motivated, I’d probably try building an automatic breakfast machine myself… But knowing me, I’ll probably just end up sleeping in instead.
