How can you not love a long weekend in the summertime, right? In North America, this weekend is a pretty patriotic one all around. Of course, Friday was Canada Day, where we celebrated our nation’s 149th birthday. For our neighbours to the south, tomorrow is Independence Day.
With sunny weather and an extra day off, I’m sure many beers have been and will be consumed on both sides of the border… Which makes this weekend a particularly good one to practice your beer passing skills.
I mean, as Canadians, most of us are pretty proficient at passing beers already…
I’m a little surprised he didn’t use the hockey stick to make the pass, but at least the other dude used his stick to receive it. Then again, Canadians are still great and receiving passed beers when they’re south of the border too. Watch this sweet pass of a beer between moving vehicles from Los Angeles Lakers fans to Steve Nash in the lead up to his first season in LA:
But to really master the art of beer passing, it doesn’t hurt to take a cue from the Packard Brothers, Nick and Jack – the guys behind the “Hey, Pass Me A Beer” series of videos.

According to Business Insider, Jack Packard is (or at least was at the time) the content supervisor for Funny Or Die. While the videos are now used as ads for Old Milwaukee, it didn’t start that way:
While sitting around the house one afternoon, Jack recalls, “we had this idea for beer passing. We did some test shots, and ended up going through three cases of our own beer. We needed more beer (obviously), so we asked Old Mil, and they were nice enough to supply the rest of the beer for the video.”
By the end of filming, they had gone through 192 beers! But, somehow had enough left for “a wicked after party.”
Naturally, the beer company wanted the video to push their product harder, but the brothers didn’t like that approach. They put it up on Funny or Die and it got a decent reaction, but when a user ripped and illegally uploaded the video on YouTube, that’s when it went viral. Old Milwaukee got on board, and the guys have since produced a few more videos of some of the most badass beer passing you’re likely to ever see.
Here’s the one that started it all:
And the second one, for which it looks like they got access to the Old Milwaukee / Pabst warehouse:
Now I’m not much of a hunter – in fact, I’ve never been hunting – but I would imagine that part of the fun of it is having a few drinks while you’re doing it. Well… I guess if you’re using firearms, that’s actually pretty irresponsible… But if you’re just passing beers out in the woods, I think that’s okay.
And the latest one came on Friday. Canada Day here in our homeland, and a few days before Independence Day (which I think is more what they were going for, what with the stars and stripes everywhere). It captures the true spirit of a long weekend.
Can’t pass a beer like these dudes? Just keep practicing… I mean, they could barely do it at first either.
