A boy who survived a four and half metre fall into a gorilla exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo is home and fine.
Bystanders couldn’t grab the boy after seeing him in the bushes beyond a fence around the exhibit.
Video shows the gorilla standing over him in a shallow moat. The 17-year-old gorilla grabbed at the boy before dragging him.
The zoo’s special animal response team shot and killed the 17-year-old gorilla because they felt the child’s life was in danger. Officials say tranquilizers may not have taken effect in time to save the boy while the dart might have agitated the animal, worsening the situation.
