Phil Kessel is a pretty talented hockey player – there’s no questioning that… Though sometimes his performance on the ice can be overshadowed by what goes on off the ice. I mean, just from looking at him, most non-hockey fans think that his day job is something FAR from being a pro athlete. However, Kessel’s All-Star Weekend back in January of last year was a pretty productive one. Of course, headlines were made when the Leafs traded him away to the Penguins, and there were plenty of memes to mark the occasion. But quite possibly my favourite Phil Kessel memory in recent times would be his excellent performance in the Penguins’ team spoof of Home Alone.
Following Wednesday’s Eastern Conference Final Game 3 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Kessel’s Pittsburgh Penguins, Kessel was doing an interview when Pierre McGuire asked a question that Kessel didn’t fully understand at first. Watch:
To be fair, if I was asked that question in that manner, I’d probably respond the same way… Though McGuire asking Kessel what his conditioning is like is a little bit of a shot in itself. Kessel’s reaction after the fact is fantastic though. I’ve never been one of the many Kessel-haters that were made when he was a Leaf, and this just makes me like him a little more.
Anyway, following Kessel’s interview, his teammates stepped in to make sure he wouldn’t have the same problem.

At least he knows his teammates will always have his back!
The Penguins look to take a 3-1 series stranglehold tonight with a victory. Puck drop is at 8 in Tampa!
And something to watch out for during the intermissions? Fans playing Mario Kart on the ice surface at Amalie Arena!

Because, you know, sometimes you miss the start of the second period after firing up the old N64 during intermission…
Though something tells me playing the Mario Kart Drinking Game would be a little too expensive to pull off with the price of beer at any arena:
