It’s a beautiful sunny day out! I think it’s about time that started becoming a regular occurrence again – but we’re just getting into May which means the summer is fast approaching. And not a moment too soon for drivers. I don’t know about you folks, but I’m pretty tired of my car being constantly filthy – though I guess that says more about my habits as a car owner than the weather itself. But up until around this point in the year, I don’t see much point in washing my car because it’s just going to get dirty again one way or another.
And even when I do wash my car, I usually just go to one of the spray-it-yourself car washes and spend between $5-8 for a few minutes of spraying it down with a pressure washer… And if I’m feeling fancy like, I’ll even use the foaming brush to give it a little scrub!
Mind you, my primary transportation is a Volkswagen that I paid $600 for… So I’m probably not going to go all out spending a fortune on a car wash. And yes, you CAN spend a fortune on a car wash.
If you happen to own a supercar, you don’t want some untrained hack washing and detailing it for you. That’s where Paul Dalton comes in. He’s a Brit whose expertise with car detailing is recognized worldwide… He’s considered the best in the world at what he does, and he goes above and beyond what anyone would expect – even working to remove the tiniest of scratches from the finish. He even offers a 61-step detailing program… But given his expertise and the expensive products he uses, his services come with a hefty pricetag.
Here’s his basic Wash & Wax package, which can cost upwards of £6,000, or roughly $11,000 Canadian:
I mean, if you own a car like that, 11 grand is pocket change to you.
I had a look at Dalton’s website – Miracle Detail – which goes over the details of each offered detailing package. Worth noting is that the bigger packages require you to leave the car with him for a couple of days, so you’re not likely going to be there watching him at work. I’m sure he prefers it that way, but as the owner of the car, you’d kind of be missing out on the fun part of watching all the cleaning products at work. I guess that’s something that people are into – and that’s one of the reasons friends of mine decided to wait in an automatic car wash lineup for OVER AN HOUR before setting off on a road trip to Toronto: To see all the different coloured soaps being sprayed onto the car. I wish I could say I was joking, but this was the scene:

So yeah, you’d miss that part… But on the upside, there’s no chance of any Car Wash mishaps happening…
I guess I’ll close this off with a question: How often do you wash YOUR car?
