This weekend at the New York Auto Show, a car was unveiled that’s sure to strike a chord with any gearhead or fan of The Burt: the brand new “Bandit” Firebird Trans Am!

Oh yeah, that is one sexy looking machine. And not only is it sexy, it’s got the power to back up its looks… And perhaps best of all – each of the “Bandit” models are signed by the Bandit himself, Burt Reynolds.
Of course, Pontiac built the Trans Am from 1967 to 2002, and then GM shut down the Pontiac product line with their corporate restructuring in 2009. The company Trans Am Depot licensed the name and logo from GM in order to produce these Trans Ams from rebuilt Chevy Camaros.
You can get one of the base model Trans Ams for about $70,000, but the “Bandit” (which comes with that badass paint job and a bigger, more powerful engine) will cost you closer to $115,000.
There will be 77 of the “Bandit” editions made, a nod to the year Smokey and the Bandit came out – 1977. Here’s a closer look:
The cars are equipped with somewhere around 230 new parts as they go through the process of being converted from Camaros to Trans Ams. While the original ’77 Firebird Trans Am maxed out at around 185 horsepower, the modern ones are considerably more potent. The “Bandit” will give you roughly 840 HP to embed yourself into your seat with. Or, you know, just annihilate your tires with.
Well, it looks like I can add another car to my bucketlist… But with a price tag like that, I can’t see it getting checked off anytime soon.
