Well would ya look at that! It’s time for another edition of Patchy’s Inappropriate Instrumentals, where I share covers of great songs done on strange instruments, or things that aren’t even instruments at all!
Once again today, I’ll be featuring a guy who has made a number of appearances here in the series: Rob Scallon. You may remember his ukulele cover of Pantera, or his banjo cover of Slayer. Hell, just last weekend, I featured a video of him shredding away on his new Shovel Guitar.
Now he’s recorded a new video with said Shovel Guitar – and if you haven’t seen the original, no it’s not like this:
Anyway, Scallon went ahead and recorded a cover of Rage Against The Machine‘s Killing in the Name. It’s pretty impressive when you consider that the shovel guitar has five fewer strings than a regular guitar, and Tom Morello is pretty good at incorporating all six strings. I wondered what he would do for the solo, but as you’ll see, that’s nothing taking a shot won’t solve!
There you go, and make sure you check out his channel for more crazy videos!
Until next time, remember to… *dig music* … And maybe rethink those last words.
