Skechers footwear have always used celebs to endorse their products, but I find their latest choice a bit odd.
It’s Ringo Starr.
Ya that guy!
He will be featured in a huge global marketing campaign for Skechers’ “Relaxed Fit” shoes. Ads will appear across TV, print, outdoor, online and point of sale starting this spring.
The company explains their reasoning behind choosing the 74-year-old Starr as their new brand ambassador (via Business Insider):
“[Ringo’s] half century in the music industry; the release of a children’s book (Octopus’s Garden) earlier this year; and his philanthropy and involvement with the #PeaceRocks campaign through the David Lynch Foundation […] Ringo is a perfect fit as the brand looks to move from just associating itself with the sports world to tying in with the music world. Ringo possesses the charm, cool, charisma and instant global recognition that will elevate awareness for our popular Relaxed Fit footwear collection.”
I’m a little confused. While Skechers has had some big names in sports represent their footwear, like Wayne Gretzky:
They have also had a bunch of “musicians” endorse their shoes.
And while Ringo certainly isn’t the first, but he may be the best.
