This weekend on The Wolf, we’re featuring music from artists who dodged the bullet. Ya know, those rockers who somehow lived through the 60’s, survived falling from a palm tree, or still manages a pack a day habit? Yup. Those guys. I wanted to make a few honorable mentions though, and my picks for this topic might be from artists that you’ve never heard of, and I hope you’ll go and discover their music.
Matt’s List Of Old Rockers Still Doing it, Hard.
1. Robert Pollard – Guided By Voices
This dude is 56 years old, and will out-drink, you and your buddies. An average GBV concert lasts 3 hours, and about 70 songs. I know this because I’ve seen this band more times than I can remember. Robert Pollard also puts out an average of 10 albums a year. That’s right. In fact, this year alone, Guided By Voices has already released 3 albums and he has 3 other solo projects being released by October. No shit. Robert Pollard is the epitome of a silver screamer.
2. Thurston Moore – Ex Sonic Youth
Think about it. This guy pretty much invented Indie Rock. Back when The Pixies were being touted as the forefathers of college rock, Thurston Moore had been playing in bands for yeeeears. He started playing in bands in ’78. He’s 55 years old, and still writing and releasing music under his solo name.
3. Eric Bachmann – Ex Archers Of Loaf
Actually, Archers got back together 2 years ago and toured the hell out of North America, but Eric’s solo output has been exhausting throughout his career, and I mean that in a good way. His Crooked Fingers moniker has released some of my favorite music ever, and his solo album almost made my wife and I ask him to play our wedding. I know he’s in his 40’s, and although he doesn’t have much hair.. he’s a true silver screamer.
And yes, lot’s more.
