The idea of not speaking for a whole day, let alone a week, is not something I’m eager to try anytime soon. But there are places like this, silent retreats, where you meditate, get in touch with your spirituality and practice mindfulness.
No eye contact.
Ok, you’re allowed to use the bathroom, but the no eye contact/no talking thing is completely true.
I have a friend who went to a silent retreat, and he said it was difficult, but very renewing and relaxing. I’ll take his word for it.
ANYWAY, this isn’t about me, this is really about the movie Silent Retreat, which will be playing tomorrow, Friday the 13th, at The Market Hall.
We spoke to the director/producer, Tricia Lee about the Canadian indie flick, which was inspired by her own experience at a silent retreat — though Tricia’s didn’t involve a shadowy, killer-creature.
The movie is about a gal named Janey who is sent to a silent retreat in the middle of the woods for rehabilitation. It’s here Janey discovers that the men who run it are brainwashing the women into submission. There is something else going on at the retreat though, and if Janey breaks the rules, she’ll find out what that is!
