There’s been lots of talk about Led Zeppelin recently. We’ve known about their upcoming reissues for a little while now, and they’re set to drop in a week and a half. Jimmy Page has been on tour promoting the reissues recently as well. There was a live listening event in Paris this week which featured Page talking about the material, and playing the unreleased bonus material from it. You can see lots of cool content surrounding the reissues on our Led Zeppelin page here.
Wednesday night, Jimmy Page’s tour brought him to the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon… And as Fallon says, he’s “the coolest Jimmy in late-night now, officially.”
Updated versions of “Led Zeppelin I”, “Led Zeppelin II” and “Led Zeppelin III” are the first projects to be released as part of an extensive reissue program that will see all nine of the band’s studio albums reissued in chronological order, each remastered by Page.
“When these things were originally done, they were done for vinyl,” Page told Fallon. “And then they were remastered about 20 years ago for the CD market. But now there’s a re-emerging vinyl market, CD, digital online — so the whole lot of these original albums has been remastered for all of those different media, if you like.”
“I thought, ‘Other people have done this — other people have remastered their catalog, so let’s see what we can do to make it, like, really special,'” Page said about the bonus disc of unreleased material that comes with each reissue.
What he didn’t mention is the fact that Led Zeppelin may be facing a lawsuit which alleges that they stole the intro to Stairway to Heaven. You can find that story in my blog post on the subject.
On a somewhat unrelated note, I just gotta say that I love what Jimmy Fallon has been doing with the Tonight Show ever since he took over. If you missed it, last night, Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and doppelganger Will Ferrell had a drum-off to decide once and for all who the best drummer is.
I just blew my own mind!
