Hal Needham, the man that directed “Smokey and the Bandit” and “The Cannonball Run,” has died. at 82.
This guy was “the man“! Talk about a life, if any man’s middle name should have been “Danger” it’s Hal!
Needham started out as a paratrooper in Korea, came home to work as a treetopper, was a billboard model for Viceroy Cigarettes.
He went on to become the highest paid Stuntman ever, he appeared in thousands of TV episodes and hundreds of movies, performing and designing stunts, and held tons of patents for new stunt equipment. Hal made those giant airbags people fall into. he also invented and patented the “Air Ram” the device that launches stuntmen in movies, the “Car Cannon” that flips cars.
Needham jumped from planes, was dragged by horses and wrecked cars broke 56 bones in the process.
His best-known for writing “Smokey & the Bandit ,” he pitched it Burt Reynolds, Burt insisted he direct it.
He also directed Arnold Schwarzenegger in “The Villain.”
Needham received an honorary Oscar last year.
after he moved out in movie he focused on breaking the World LandSspeed Record with the Budweiser Rocket.
He died in 2013 at the age of 82 shortly after being diagnosed with cancer
